The Trademark Office of Kurdistan Region-Erbil has put into effect the 15-year trademark protection term based on a decree issued by the Registrar of Trademarks on 01 April 2026, for registration certificates due for issuance as of 01 June 2026.
The new decree states the following scope:
- All newly filed trademark applications are examined and granted a 15-year protection period from the registration date.
- Pending applications that did not have an issued registration certificate by the effective date transition to the 15-year term upon registration.
- Certificates issued under the prior 10-year practice retain their original terms and will only transition to the 15-year period upon their future renewal.
